This exceptional course offers everything at a Foundation level for the newly qualifying mediator wishing to work in the UK, Europe, or internationally. This is identical to our renowned Accredited Mediator Foundation courseadopted by the Bar Council course and offered by the same Faculty under a new relaitonship with University College..
The feedback for the Faculty since 1999 is legendary, and this course for UCL Members only 25% of comparable alternatives because as a Charity we do not take a profit - we just fund our costs and our charitable activities in the UK such as the Free Mediation Project and our international outreach in southern Africa. This means for UCL our fees are reduced to just £450 for the week Our educational activities are also VAT-exempt (zero-rated) so this offers and additional saving.
The course represents the key step towards qualification as a Civil & Commercial Mediator and successful completion will result in certification as a mediator subject to undertaking the required observations. Delegates will undertake both theory and practical elements during this intensive, week-long course and will be required to undergo both an assessed simulated mediation and written examination.
Who is this for?
This course is suitable for anyone at UCL who has an interest in learning more about mediation, whether they intend to practice as a mediator themselves or simply use the skills learned within their own student life or future roles. No previous knowledge or understanding of alternative dispute resolution or the law is required as all essential elements will be covered on the course.

This course was engaging, excellently delivered and thoroughly enjoyable! I would recommend this to lawyers and non-lawyers alike. The skills that you will learn on the course will be beneficial in various aspects of life, irrespective of whether or not you want to practise as a mediator afterwards!
Barrister, Government Legal Department
"An intensive, comprehensive and action packed course which allowed me to see beyond the theory to putting it into practice. It is one thing to read about a field of practice and quite another to try and do it yourself!"
Broadcaster and singer
‘The Society of Mediators course will both change your life and the way you look at resolving any dispute in the future. I was already a convert to mediation, having been continually frustrated by the court process, in my practice as a solicitor. However, the course gave me a completely fresh outlook in the way to deal with mediation, and is designed to fast-track you to have the skills, you may have thought you had, but didn’t realise you need. The week is intense, but in a good way, and planned so that you often don’t really realise you are continually learning. There is a rich blend of tutors and facilitators, who have a very wide range of backgrounds. It may sound over the top, but by day one I was completely re-thinking the way I approached problems, and indeed the way I communicated with people. Whether you are a lawyer or not, this course has something to offer anyone who wants to resolve issues in any walk of life. In fact, I found my legal background, something of a disadvantage, as I had to be ‘untrained’ in lots of ways I approach disputes. Most importantly of all, I learnt to listen and not talk! To say it is ‘value for money’ is an understatement. I urge you to sign up. You will not regret it.’ Ben Tisdall, Solicitor. www.bentisdallsolicitor.com

I know it has been over a month since we completed the course, but the more I reflect upon those 5 days, the more I realise their immense impact. This has been the most stimulating course I have done in over 3 years, and for that I cannot thank you enough. I just wanted to thank you for the time, and effort you and your lovely team put into the structure and content of the course. The skills you passed on were simply life-altering. This introduction to the world of mediation has greatly deepened my passion for ADR, and I am extremely excited to go further with this. I am looking forward to the next steps, and to hopefully learning more from you in the future.
