As a group we will reflect on the lessons learned since the pandemic: how the practice of mediation has adapted and changed, the challenges faced and the opportunities presented. to grow and develop. We will also discuss how we can best use these new opportunies to grow our own practices and to promote the use of mediation in new areas.
We will look in detail at mediating within business disputes and partnerships and how interpersonal relationships can impact upon the resolution of even the most technical issues. Mediating at an Advanced level will be explored within an interactive workshop, followed by a group discussion.
Delegates will also learn about the skills and techniques needed when mediating with difficult people and we encourage you to share an example that you have actually encountered in a mediation within this confidential environment so that we may discuss these shared challenges and how they might best be approached. We will also touch on narcassists and sociopaths and the impact that individuals with these traits can have on the mediation process.
After a learning review delegates will be invited to stay for informal discussions where drinks and finger food will be provided and there will be plenty of opportunity for networking and socialising with the faculty and other mediators.

This course was engaging, excellently delivered and thoroughly enjoyable! I would recommend this to lawyers and non-lawyers alike. The skills that you will learn on the course will be beneficial in various aspects of life, irrespective of whether or not you want to practise as a mediator afterwards!

"An intensive, comprehensive and action packed course which allowed me to see beyond the theory to putting it into practice. It is one thing to read about a field of practice and quite another to try and do it yourself!"

‘The Society of Mediators course will both change your life and the way you look at resolving any dispute in the future. I was already a convert to mediation, having been continually frustrated by the court process, in my practice as a solicitor. However, the course gave me a completely fresh outlook in the way to deal with mediation, and is designed to fast-track you to have the skills, you may have thought you had, but didn’t realise you need. The week is intense, but in a good way, and planned so that you often don’t really realise you are continually learning. There is a rich blend of tutors and facilitators, who have a very wide range of backgrounds. It may sound over the top, but by day one I was completely re-thinking the way I approached problems, and indeed the way I communicated with people. Whether you are a lawyer or not, this course has something to offer anyone who wants to resolve issues in any walk of life. In fact, I found my legal background, something of a disadvantage, as I had to be ‘untrained’ in lots of ways I approach disputes. Most importantly of all, I learnt to listen and not talk! To say it is ‘value for money’ is an understatement. I urge you to sign up. You will not regret it.’ Ben Tisdall, Solicitor. www.bentisdallsolicitor.com

I know it has been over a month since we completed the course, but the more I reflect upon those 5 days, the more I realise their immense impact. This has been the most stimulating course I have done in over 3 years, and for that I cannot thank you enough. I just wanted to thank you for the time, and effort you and your lovely team put into the structure and content of the course. The skills you passed on were simply life-altering. This introduction to the world of mediation has greatly deepened my passion for ADR, and I am extremely excited to go further with this. I am looking forward to the next steps, and to hopefully learning more from you in the future.
