What will I learn?
- Update yourself on recent developments within the profession
- Hear about new opportunities for those in practice
- Understand emerging case law impacting on the use on ADR
- Discuss the challenges and benefits of remote mediation
- Hone your skills and practice new techniques with your peers
This online version of our annual CPD & Mediation Skills Development Day is delivered via Zoom Pro by the same faculty of experienced practicing mediators as our ‘in person’ course. It is intended for accredited mediators who wish to develop or refresh their skills after a break, and those in practice who require their annual 6 hours of CPD. All Accredited Mediators are required to undertake 6 hours of mediation specific Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in order to satisfy the Civil Mediation Council (CMC) and International standards. Our annual updates both meet this requirement and ensure that standards of practice are kept at their highest levels.
The one day course ensures that mediators are able to satisfy the annual requirement for Continuing Professional Development but perhaps most importantly ensures they are up to date with developments within the profession and remain fluent in their practice.
Beginning with an exploration and discussion of the benefits and challenges of mediating remotely via Zoom and similar platforms, delegates will benefit from a range of hints and tips to ensure they and their participants are fully protected. They will also have the opportunity to learn and develop some additional skills required to make the best use of this alternative method of delivering mediation.
The afternoon sessions consist of our popular and familar case study format, where delegates will in turn take roles as mediator, participant and observer and engage in peer discussion and feedback.
Delegates will end the day with a general workshop and practice discussion with some opportunity for networking once the formal course concludes.
There is also the exclusive obserrvation and demonstration at 1715.
Who is this for?
For accredited mediators who wish to refresh their skills after a break, or those in practice who require their annual 6 hours of CPD.

This course was engaging, excellently delivered and thoroughly enjoyable! I would recommend this to lawyers and non-lawyers alike. The skills that you will learn on the course will be beneficial in various aspects of life, irrespective of whether or not you want to practise as a mediator afterwards!
Barrister, Government Legal Department
"An intensive, comprehensive and action packed course which allowed me to see beyond the theory to putting it into practice. It is one thing to read about a field of practice and quite another to try and do it yourself!"

‘The Society of Mediators course will both change your life and the way you look at resolving any dispute in the future. I was already a convert to mediation, having been continually frustrated by the court process, in my practice as a solicitor. However, the course gave me a completely fresh outlook in the way to deal with mediation, and is designed to fast-track you to have the skills, you may have thought you had, but didn’t realise you need. The week is intense, but in a good way, and planned so that you often don’t really realise you are continually learning. There is a rich blend of tutors and facilitators, who have a very wide range of backgrounds. It may sound over the top, but by day one I was completely re-thinking the way I approached problems, and indeed the way I communicated with people. Whether you are a lawyer or not, this course has something to offer anyone who wants to resolve issues in any walk of life. In fact, I found my legal background, something of a disadvantage, as I had to be ‘untrained’ in lots of ways I approach disputes. Most importantly of all, I learnt to listen and not talk! To say it is ‘value for money’ is an understatement. I urge you to sign up. You will not regret it.’ Ben Tisdall, Solicitor. www.bentisdallsolicitor.com

I know it has been over a month since we completed the course, but the more I reflect upon those 5 days, the more I realise their immense impact. This has been the most stimulating course I have done in over 3 years, and for that I cannot thank you enough. I just wanted to thank you for the time, and effort you and your lovely team put into the structure and content of the course. The skills you passed on were simply life-altering. This introduction to the world of mediation has greatly deepened my passion for ADR, and I am extremely excited to go further with this. I am looking forward to the next steps, and to hopefully learning more from you in the future.
