Possession Mediation Scheme begins - First of 10,000 cases received!

The first referral to the Housing Possession Mediation Pilot Scheme offered by The Society of Mediators  in conjunction with the Government has now been recieved!

This 'free to the public' scheme is staffed by seven clerks taking referrals from all over England and Wales in a Scheme fully funded by HMCTS, The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government.  SoM Panel Mediators who have recieved additional training  will be conducting all mediations under the scheme on a remote basis. 

This innovative service is the first of its kind in the UK and is intended to provide up to 10,000 mediations this year. It is hoped that more schemes will be put in place for other key areas of dispute. This will not only provide users with an excellent alternative to litigation but will assist in easing the backlog of court hearings which have been further exacerbated by the reduced availability resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic
